Course description

This course aims at introducing basic statistical concepts with reference to educational research.

Course topics include the scope of statistics, its role in educational research, data collection, measurement issues, descriptive statistics, correlation, basic notions of probability, and statistical hypothesis testing.

 

Learning outcomes

After the successful completion of this course students will:

  • be able to comprehend of the role of statistics in research
  • be able to connect research with educational issues.
  • have basic skills in the use of SPSS.
  • be able to interpret statistical findings.
  • be able to understand relevant knowledge in order to apply it in new contexts.
  • be able to use relevant knowledge in the formulation of judgments and in the solution of relevant issues.

 

Assessment 

Student evaluation is accomplished with a paper at the end of the semester. Written (50%) and oral (50%) presentation of statistical analyses.
