Dr Maria Papadopoulou is Professor at the Department of Early Childhood Education, University of Thessaly. She holds a degree in French Language and Literature, a M.A. in Applied Linguistics and a Ph.D. in Applied Linguistics at the Department of French Language and Literature, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. She is Head of the Laboratory for “Language and Culture” at the University of Thessaly. She has taught French as a foreign language for almost ten years in all levels of education. She has taught Greek as a L2 for five years. Also, she has worked as a researcher for 10 years in the Laboratory for Didactics of Languages at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. She has been teaching courses in emergent literacy, linguistics and language acquisition at the undergraduate level since 1999. She has also been teaching courses for the postgraduate programmes at the Department of Preschool Education and at the Department of Primary Education, University of Thessaly. She has been invited by school advisors and institutions to give teacher training courses to practising Greek language teachers in Macedonia and Thessaly. Her main research interests are in the areas of emergent literacy, multiliteracies, analysis of multimodal texts, language acquisition and teaching, linguistics, Greek as L1 & L2, writing systems and curriculum design.  She has numerous publications in journals and conference proceedings. She is a reviewer in Greek and International scientific journals.
