Course description
The aim of the course is to prepare students to design and apply education programs into Early Childhood Education (ECE) placements. In particular, students design education activities based on the ECE Interdisciplinary Core Curriculum Framework (Pedagogical Institute, 2003) and the ECE Curriculum (Institute of Education Policy, 2014). Throughout small-group seminars as well as pilot applications into ECE placements, students reflect and evaluate on their own designed education programs. During the semester, students participate in course lectures, small-group seminars with laboratory teaching staff as well as pilot applications of education programs in ECE placements. The course material related to lectures, seminars, and education program applications into ECE placements is fulfilled by the Department’s ‘Theoretical and Applied Pedagogy’ Laboratory.
Learning outcomes
By the end of the course, students are expected to be able to highlight the implementation of appropriate education methods and techniques, to design education programs for ECE, to reflect and evaluate on the role of ECE teachers into various ECE placements, to apply critical perspectives related to ECE, to incorporate evaluation processes into education design, as well as to recognize the importance of teachers’ professional development in order to address complex issues related to ECE.
Assessment
The student assessment is based on papers that are developed and submitted by small groups of two students.

Teaching methods are based on lectures, small-group seminars, and pilot program applications into ECE placements.
