Stylianos Piperakis is a graduate of the University of Thessaloniki, Greece. He was awarded a Ph.D. from the University of Wales in Britain. He worked as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the Universities of Leeds, Glasgow, Liverpool and Sussex in the UK. In Greece he worked as a Research Scientist and Head of the “DNA Repair” Laboratory in the Biology Institute of the National Center for Scientific Research “Demokritos”. Since 2005 he has been teaching in the Department of Early Childhood Education, at the University of Thessaly. His research interests are focused on the study of environmental factors (i.e., air pollution, sun exposure, pesticides, water pollution, diet, smoking etc) that could cause serious health problems, particularly to children, who constitute a very sensitive population group. Classical and Molecular Epidemiological studies are carried out using suitable methodological tools such as questionnaires and Molecular Biology methods. His goal is to inform and educate these immediately affected populations in order for them to take suitable preventive measures which will minimise dangers. He was invited to more than 160 scientific conferences, both national and international and participated in a large number of national and international research programmes. He has published more than 80 research articles in books and international scientific journals. He is also a referee of scientific articles in more than 20 international scientific journals.
