Course description<\/strong><\/p>\n

The purpose of the course is to provide future educators with a supportive framework for transitioning from the academic to the working environment, familiarizing them with the multifaceted scientific and professional demands of early childhood educators. During the course, students are expected to connect theory with practice, familiarize themselves with and apply innovative teaching approaches, implement the educational planning they have developed, and become well-acquainted with general planning, educational practice, reflection, and the development of critical thinking for evaluating educational work. Within the context of the course, students attend theoretical sessions, participate in mandatory in-person seminar meetings, and complete 4 weeks of practicum placement in early childhood education structures within the Regional Unit of Magnesia. The activities developed consist of thematic educational scenarios and project plans that emphasize cross-thematic integration, a holistic perception of knowledge, and the utilization of children’s interests, ideas, and lived experiences in the learning process. The students’ teaching practices are framed by theoretical seminars and feedback discussions. These discussions are conducted in groups and aim to support students, address potential difficulties, resolve any emerging problems, and encourage students to venture into original topics. Furthermore, students present their activity portfolio in advance of its implementation in the kindergarten classroom to avoid potential mistakes and to highlight innovative teaching approaches that can be applied in kindergartens. Additionally, the course develops Initial Teacher Education (ITE) eTwinning programs to enhance collaborative learning environments.<\/p>\n

Learning outcomes<\/strong><\/p>\n

Upon completion of the course, students will be able to interact with preschool-aged children in early childhood education structures, take initiatives of self-activation and professional resourcefulness in dealing with potential pedagogical problems in classrooms, design and develop innovative educational activities, implement educational programs in an integrated manner, and reflect\u2014both individually and in groups\u2014on the educational work implemented during the practicum period.<\/p>\n

Assessment<\/strong><\/p>\n

The course follows a combined assessment model, which may include (but is not limited to) written or oral examinations, as well as the evaluation of students’ group work (Practicum Portfolio).<\/p>\n

Teaching methods<\/strong><\/p>\n

Theoretical lectures, seminar meetings, group work, mandatory practicum implementation. The seminar format of the course requires mandatory in-person student participation in all course activities.<\/p>\n
