{"id":3379,"date":"2024-06-09T22:13:57","date_gmt":"2024-06-09T19:13:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ece.uth.gr\/?page_id=3379"},"modified":"2024-07-09T18:48:49","modified_gmt":"2024-07-09T15:48:49","slug":"qualitative-research-methods","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/ece.uth.gr\/en\/course\/qualitative-research-methods\/","title":{"rendered":"Qualitative research methods"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Course Code (in greek)<\/strong>: \u0392\u03a00815<\/p>\n<p><strong>ECTS Units<\/strong>: 5<\/p>\n<p><strong>Semester<\/strong>: 5<\/p>\n<p><strong>Professor<\/strong>: <a href=\"https:\/\/ece.uth.gr\/en\/person\/tseliou-eleftheria\/\">Tseliou Eleftheria<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/eclass.uth.gr\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Course material<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Course description<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The course aims at enabling students to develop skills in carrying out and writing up, both bibliographical research and also small-scale empirical research following \u2018qualitative\u2019 methodological approaches.\u00a0The course contents include:\u00a0Philosophical and epistemological perspectives in qualitative research methodology, literature review, qualitative research methods and approaches (phenomenological methods, thematic analysis, ethnography, grounded theory, action research, discourse and conversation analysis, narrative analysis, visual methods, art-based research, post-qualitative\/post-humanist inquiry), qualitative data collection methods (observation, interviewing, focus groups), qualitative data analysis methods, literature review and research report writing, quality criteria for qualitative research methods-Reflexivity.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Learning outcomes:<\/strong>\u00a0During the course students are expected to:<\/p>\n<ul style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\n<li>Understand the diverse philosophical and epistemological premises of \u2018qualitative\u2019 research<\/li>\n<li>Become familiar with the various \u2018qualitative\u2019 research methods<\/li>\n<li>Become familiar with the \u2018qualitative\u2019 research design (framing of research questions, qualitative data collection and analysis)<\/li>\n<li>Be able to design, carry out and write up a small-scale research (bibliographical or empirical of \u2018qualitative\u2019 methodology)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Assessment methods<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Research report paper of the qualitative study conducted by students in small groups (50%), oral exams and paper presentation on an individual basis at the end of the semester (50%).<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Teaching methods<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Lectures and workshops of research projects supervision. As a course requirement, the students must design and conduct a small-scale \u2018qualitative\u2019 research study in small groups.
