The role of environmental and socio-cultural factors is particularly emphasized, in order to highlight their impact on development. The course aims at acquainting students with preschoolers\u2019 developmental traits and achievements, while models and tools for assessing development are also discussed. The course attempts to connect theory and practice, so that students can use their knowledge to their daily practice.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Learning outcomes<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Upon successful completion of the course, students are expected to:<\/p>\n<ul style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\n<li>be able to use theories of human development for interpreting developmental change.<\/li>\n<li>have become familiar with the basic ways of assessing a child&#8217;s development.<\/li>\n<li>have become familiar with the methods of studying developmental changes.<\/li>\n<li>have an understanding of the role of contextual factors (social and cultural) in development.<\/li>\n<li>have acquired basic skills of locating and critically evaluating literature on a topic related to child development.<\/li>\n<li>be able to critically present contemporary views on this topic.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Assessment<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Written essay (literature review) in a topic related to child development and its oral presentation and examination.<strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Teaching methods<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Lectures\u00a0\u00a0&#8211; Group work \u2013 Exercises aiming to connect theory with practice.
